Derek Boyd, founder of the jewellers academy in one of the training workshops in Bridlington

The Jewellers Academy® is the first of its kind in the UK, an award winning training centre specialising in repairs, restorations and manufacture within the jewellery trade. We offer a wide variety of short courses relevant to the jewellery trade such as Soldering and Bench Skills, Ring Sizing, Necklace & Bracelet Repair, Electroplating, Stone Setting & Retipping and General Watch Repair with plans for more short courses in the future such as CAD design, Engraving, Hallmarking, Diamond Grading and more. Our 40 week Diploma course covers a wide range of training, not only helping students to develop their practical skills, but also the associated skills to make it a successful business! Our modern workshop in Bridlington covers three floors under the same roof. All tools and equipment are supplied for the courses, ensuring you learn on the best tools for the job, and The Jewellers Academy has also become an official training centre for Orotig Laser machines, which are known to be one of the finest in the industry.

“4 days of laughter, brilliance, learning and knowledge exchange. I cannot recommend Derek and The Jewellers Academy highly enough, and would urge anyone who is considering their bench skill development to go here.

This is the kind of training the industry needs. Training that is focused on real world excellence, efficiency, technique, skill, and just doing it properly.. all with a bit of craic too! The course I did was setting level 1 & 2, but it is so much more. Derek’s passion and expertise is delivered throughout, and the amount of information and insight that is shared within 4 days is astounding. From manufacture of settings, control of heat, different tools their uses & sourcing recommendations, workshop management, to the actual setting and different ways of achieving the result.

Classes are small so each individual gets plenty of guidance and attention. No question is too much and the support and feedback you receive from Derek is both constructive and kind. I have left with renewed enthusiasm and confidence to practice and develop my skills at the bench. Look forward to learning more from Derek & The Jewellers Academy in the future.

Thank you so much!”
